The memory of Columbine has been revived yet AGAIN with the James Holmes situation AKA the Batman Massacre. I've been following this story the past few days, and it's honestly a little exciting because of the connections between the two. It happened about 15 miles from Columbine. Also had almost the same death toll. Holmes killed 12 people (unless more of the critically wounded die). Almost topped Eric and Dylan but not quite!
The story may not be as interesting and powerful as Columbine was, but I'm pretty intrigued. I'm definitely interested in knowing what made such an intelligent guy from a well-off family snap the way he did. Hopefully we will find out since he decided not to kill himself. I wonder if many more details about him will emerge, such as photos, videos, stuff he's written. Without knowing him in a more personal way like Eric and Dylan, he won't be as memorable over the years. He sure made one hell of a headliner though, Eric would be proud!
Hey. I randomly searched up Eric Harris and your blog came up. I wanted to say, quite frankly, I'm glad to have found someone who feels the same way. While I don't agree/support what Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did, my girlfriend and I are very fascinated by them. I've tried to dig up as much as possible on the internet. The assembly at school a while back, "Rachel's Challenge" intrigued me for the wrong reasons. I feel much sympathy for the Columbine victims and their families, but the killers have always had my subject of interest.

I became interested when i saw the news about John Holmes some days ago, they made the link with the Columbine massacre, so i decided to refresh my memory and i started to search :)

ReplyDeleteBut anyways, Skye Leaf-To this day I don't understand why I'm so fascinated by Columbine. I guess part of it is how much Eric and Dylan allowed us to get to know them. They documented so much of their lives and gave us so much information to work with. You never hear about Virginia Tech, but Columbine is still mentioned in the media every so often, even though they killed FAR less and it happened 8 years earlier.
Eric Harris-I want to start by saying, I wish I was 18 again...lol. But yeah, I've gotten several comments since the James Holmes incident. I'd only recieve one every month or so before that, so it's kinda nice. Eric and Dylan did seem like very chill guys, and way beyond their years. I used to think that I was in love with Eric and who he seemed to be as a person, but I realized at some point that it's just a fascination. Their story seems like something Hollywood would come up with, just so interesting and full of detail like a movie plot.

I dont condone what they did at all but for some reason for about 4 years now (I just turned 18) I couldn't stop thinking about columbine and eric.

I noticed that sometimes it's all I think about or it crosses my mind daily and then sometimes I dont think about it for a while. But I just recently started thinking about it. And I could never figure out why! Becuase I dont feel like I relate to Eric at all. I just finished high school and had a good amount of friends and i'm a pretty happy person so I could never really figure out why I feel such a connection to this whole thing.
The only thing I can really figure out is because Eric was such a mystery and left behind so much information and writings. I also think he's cute and it really bugs me that I will never know him and that I wish I could go back to his time and just talk to him. And it's silly because if this never happened I wouldn;t of known who he was and he'd be much older than me now.
What is your reason for being interested in him? I would love to hear your view!

ReplyDeleteIt is an on and off thing, it always has been for me. It's a fascination that I wouldn't mind losing but I don't know when or if that will ever happen for good. I'd say for past year and a half or so I've thought abut him pretty often. I didn't think of him for several moths before then.
I don't relate to him a lot myself, but I'm drawn to his type. Mysterious, dangerous, intelligent, his look. I don't know if he acted that way around his friends, but he seemed that way to me in the few videos of him that there are. And I agree, he was sooo cute. My type in every way except height, lol. But anyways, I'm just grateful he's the ONLY mass murderer (or serial killer) that I'm fascinated with.

hey Jade! I live in England so i dont really get the jock culture thing but i am fascinated by Harris!And its kind of weird because i'm like 15. I've benn looking him up and i have to admit he was a psychopath - not an opinon but a fact. anyway in a sense i'm like you too because i always get frustrated because my shyness etc.

I mean i rrly wish i could of met them (for some reason).But im such a socially awkward person tht i would probably mess things up. ReplyDeleteOMG THANK GOD FOR YOUR BLOG!!!! I have been fascinated by Eric since Columbine happened and I have loads to say and I didn't know where I could vent!!! I have read transcripts from his Diary and I have read his "I Hate" website and before he met Dylan he would write on his website that he loved school and he hated racism with a passion, all that changed when he became friends with Dylan!!!! i have also viewed video footage in the school canteen a year before it all happened and Eric had a big group of friends round him and he also had a girlfriend and when he went to speak to her all the friends went their own ways and left Dylan on his own floating about videoing people and when he went to video one of Erics friends he got shunned and then went to get Eric and basically dragged him away from his GF and when people saw Eric was leaving the friends then all followed!!!!! I truly believe that this was all Dylans fault, I am still finding out information but on what i have viewed/read it is all Dylans fault!!!!

She is just a girl that he really liked and from the looks of the video she didnt feel the same way about him. And that whole thing with Dylan never happened. They aren't especially "interesting", they lived a fairly banal and pathetic existence of self-aggrandizing thoughts coupled with manic depressive ones.
ReplyDeleteThey weren't especially smart either. Their writing is poor and their ideas are immature and even child like in simplicity. Eric was a classic psychopath, display most of the traits and thus he loved himself above all else. Dylan was a hapless sheep who couldn't combat Harris' aggressive dominance.
The only reason anyone should be "interested" is to pick up clues regarding future prevention. Eric would have stood over you and shot you in the head with no thought of it, so get over your love for him people.
